NIGERIA UP NEXT

The US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann will be preparing his team to face Nigeria in a friendly match just before the World Cup 2014. This match could be a great preparatory tool for the Americans since it occurs just a few weeks before the World Cup, while Nigeria are also one of the teams to have qualified for this tournament. Nigeria do not have a tough draw on their hands since they will be up against teams like Iran and Bosnia in the group stages. The same cannot be said of the Americans, who will be up against Germany, Portugal, and Ghana.

This is widely perceived as the group of death since all teams have the capability to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. Klinsmann has already achieved a lot of success with the US national team at previous major tournaments. The US were especially good at the recent Confederation Cup. However, they do not come into the World Cup in the best of form, as they have managed just two victories out of the last five matches. Still, friendlies against Mexico, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Nigeria provide the US with enough opportunities to recover their form.

Klinsmann also recently suggested that he has not close to the door on any player looking to get into the national team at the last moment.

a?We are absolutely thrilled with the schedule we have put together for the Send-Off Series. We have some fantastic opponents that will help us get prepared for the teams we will meet in the World Cup,a? said Klinsmann. The nation will be opening their World Cup with a match against Ghana, which will be again of great importance given that the remaining two are against slightly tougher opposition in the form of Portugal and Germany.

KLINSMANN SUSPENDED

The United States national team will be without manager Jurgen Klinsmann on the touchline after the German was suspended for the Gold Cup final. The United States will be taking on Panama in the final and this is a great opportunity for the nation to get a major trophy under the felt before the World Cup qualifying campaign resumes. Klinsmann, who has come in for criticism in recent months, has managed to get his team to the final of the competition. However, he will not be present in the touchline due to the suspension he received just minutes before the end of the semi-final against Honduras.

The United States were winning the match 3-1, but Klinsmann’s outburst against a decision by the referee resulted in him being sent off. The CONCACAF disciplinary committee has reviewed the incident and has given the former Bayern Munich player a one match suspension. Captain of the team, DaMarcus Beasley, though, has said that it does not change the outcome of the final. He has said that the team is extremely well prepared and is confident of winning the final. Honduras committed a series of hard fouls against America and the manager was extremely displeased with the officials.

a?I donat think it changes too much. Itas always good to have him on the bench, but heall give his wisdom before the game a make sure we get off on the right foot. But itas not going to be the same not seeing his face on the sideline, giving us instructions when we need it and being the enthusiastic person that he is on the bench. Especially, when we score or he needs to tell us something if we need to change something,a? said the US captain ahead of the match, which could be their fifth consecutive victory.
