Christian Pulisic hints at playing in Eden Hazard’s position next term

United States international Christian Pulisic has dropped a suggestion that he could feature on the left wing when he makes the move to Chelsea in the summer. The 20-year-old signed for the Blues from Borussia Dortmund during the winter transfer window but he was instantly loaned back to the German club for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking in a press conference, Pulisic has suggested that the left wing is a position where he can impress in the forthcoming years and he is hoping to do so from the national team under Gregg Berhalter, he said: “I think it’s a really good position for me. Obviously I don’t mind where I play on the field, I just like to be in a good attacking areas where I can create and help the team score goals because that’s where I feel I’m at my best. I like the style that [Berhalter] has and I like that position a lot. [Berhalter’s] very focused on all the details of the game.”

The United States have gone through a tough period in football after missing out on the 2018 World Cup but Pulisic has suggested that the current crop of young players can produce the goods to qualify for the next edition in Qatar. Elsewhere, the Chelsea loanee indicated that the national side must bring a fear factor into their game but that would take a while with the recent appointment of Berhalter.

Meanwhile, Pulisic’s ambition to play on the left wing could bring question marks regarding the future of Eden Hazard, who has been in a contract standoff with Chelsea. The Belgian, who has just 15 months remaining on his contract, has been touted to join Real Madrid during the summer regardless of the two-window transfer ban placed on the west London club by FIFA.
