WEST BROM SIGNS USA STRIKER DIKE

Premier League promotion chasers West Brom have signed Nigerian-born USA international Daryl Dike from Orlando City in the MLS (Major League Soccer). The 21-year-old USA striker has joined the Baggies to boost their Premier League promotion hopes.

Dike has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Baggies until the end of the 2025/26 season. The USA national team star joins West Brom for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £7m. He has made eight appearances for the United States senior national team.

New West Brom signing Dike spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow English Championship team Barnsley while current Baggies boss Valerien Ismael was their manager. The USA international impressed under the Frenchman as he helped Barnsley reach the Championship playoffs before they were beaten over two legs by Swansea City in the semi-finals. He scored nine goals in 19 appearances for Barnsley during his four-month spell at the club.

USA player Dike has not played since November 24 and he’s not expected to play for the Baggies until he has reached the required fitness level. The new signing has been tipped to make his debut during the Championship clash at Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on Saturday. By then, he would have reached the needed fitness level required to feature in a game between two teams with eyes on Premier League promotion.

On the signing of Dike, West Brom boss Ismael said that the player was always the first target and priority for the club and that a lot of teamwork took place to make the deal happen. Speaking further in a West Brom statement, the French manager said that Dike has everything that West Brom need in a number nine. According to him, the USA striker has strength and energy in abundance in addition to the fact that he worries defenders and also knows how to find the back of the net.
