Chelsea chairman hoping that Christian Pulisic signing will boost fanbase in USA

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has admitted that the club are hoping to boost the fanbase in the United States of America with the summer arrival of Christian Pulisic. The west London giants pursued the signature of the attacker from Dortmund during the January transfer window, but he was instantly loaned back to the German club for the rest of the season.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Buck said that there are no surprises that the attacker has a good fanbase among the United States faithful. He added that the club are scheduled to play some matches in the United States during pre-season and they are hoping to garner more support through the tour, he told: “He’s a personable boy. He’s well-liked in this country. So, of course I would expect him when we come here and play some friendly matches, which is what our objective is in the summer of 2020. Then yes, I think he will he will be helpful.”

Pulisic has not enjoyed the best of seasons with Dortmund this term where he has been regularly hampered with muscular concerns. As such, he has largely played second fiddle to Jadon Sancho on the right side of the attack and the same appears unlikely to change during the final stages of the league campaign where Dortmund are contesting for the title.

Lucien Favre’s team are currently one point behind Bayern Munich at the top of the league table and they require a favour from someone to stop the former’s quest for a seventh straight title. Compared to Bayern, they have the easier run-in for the remaining four games and it remains to be seen whether the likes of RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt can restrict the holders from securing maximum points. Dortmund have a home game against Schalke 04 this weekend.
