The USA achieved some spectacular results during their recent trip to Europe and one of them came in the 2-1 win over Germany.
This came just days after beating Netherlands 4-3 in a highly thrilling encounter. Manager Jurgen Klinsmann says that these kind of results will give the national team a lot of confidence going into the big matches in big tournaments. The United States almost came close to reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup 2014 before being knocked out by Belgium. It was seen as one of the finest performances from the team on a major stage.
Klinsmann has revolutionised the way the national team has been playing. They are now more capable of taking the big guns head on. Further, the former Bayern Munich star has also introduced a number of new names into the national team. They are seen as the future replacement for the likes of Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey. Both these players have been extremely influential at the international scene for USA, but they are fast approaching the end of their international careers. One name to make an impression in the recent friendlies was striker Bobby Wood. The 22-year-old scored the winner against Germany.
“Results like this here and there give us confidence that we will win these games at a World Cup in the knockout stage,” Klinsmann said in the post-match news conference. “Yeah, I’m still taking it in but it’s a great feeling that we got those two wins as a team, and that’s the most important — that we won as a team. I’m honored that I got to represent the national team and get these two goals, and I’m just going to try and continue this form and just soak it in for now,” said Wood, who managed to secure the winner in the 87th minute.
